I am a 71-year-old singer-songwriter-musician, actively performing since the 1950s and also known as a scholar and author. I use my (cool) website to refer people to my (indy) products for sale/download on CD Baby, and to make my history and interests known to others. But I admit I am not willing to devote a lot of time to marketing. I am not gigging as often as I like, and my musical tastes and talents are out of the mainstream.

    Hi Elizabeth,
Thank you for the information & report on Alexa & quantcast. Very Revealing ! I’ll be testdriving those sites soon. I am a singer/songwriter/performer in B.C. Canada, and have my own recording studio using Protools 8 etc. to create my own sounds. For many years I’ve been researching how to make music pay for itself and still need help. I like your survey since it hits home on the points I’m trying to develop. Using Facebook,Twitter & all the social networking sites, but I must admit I don’t know how to use them as yet. I’m interested in discussing more.
    Best regards

    Hi Bill,

Thank you for your comments. Your comments reflect the frustrations of so many musicians. I too am a musician and have found some powerful solutions. I’ve found the majority of what is working for me with regard to selling CD’s ad digital downloads, not from the music world but from the marketing world. My goal is to continue to uncover the valuable tools from the marketing world and figure out how to utilize them in the music world in order to help myself and other musicians sell more CD’s online and create a bigger audience for independents and small labels. Not only can we make our music pay for it’s self but we can spend more of our time doing the work we love, that is the goal!

    Hi Mayne,

I love your comment, It is an inspiration to hear that you are still gigging in your seventies! I plan to be doing the same, you inspire me. As far as marketing goes, my goal is to help my fellow musicians with some marketing info so that they don’t waste a lot of time and money on on things that don’t work. I hope to be helpful in your success:) Stay in touch.
